Call to Worship

Lion and the Lamb

He's coming on the clouds
Kings and kingdoms will bow down
Every chain will break
As broken hearts declare His praise
For who can stop the Lord almighty?

Our God is the Lion, the Lion of Judah
He's roaring with power and fighting our battles
Every knee will bow before Him
Our God is the Lamb, the Lamb that was slain
For the sins of the world, His blood breaks the chains
Every knee will bow before the Lion and the Lamb
Every knee will bow before Him

So open up the gates
Make way before the King of Kings
The God who comes to save
Is here to set the captives free
For who can stop the Lord almighty?
Who can stop the Lord almighty?
Who can stop the Lord almighty?

TOday's Announcements

Here are a few critical announcements to keep in mind:

  • Happy Father's Day!  We wanted to give a special shout-out to all the dads out there.  Thanks for all you do!  As a way of appreciating you, please enjoy a Dad's Root Beer and Christine's Cookie Co. cookie on us.  You can pick them up at the Welcome Table after the service.  (P.S. We'll probably have extra for anyone else who might want in on the goodness as well ; )
  • All Church Campout: We've got exciting news.  Mercy Hill is planning to host an All Church Campout at Mount Madonna County Park over the weekend of July 23-25th.  Details are still in the works, but more will be coming at you in this week's newsletter.  Please keep an eye out for that and SAVE THE DATE!
  • City Team Love Your Neighborhood Day: Next Saturday, June 26th, Mercy Hill Church has the opportunity to join with CityTeam to serve the community.  We will staff a clothing distribution pop-up closet from 11:30am to 4:00pm at 1297 N. 13th Street in San Jose.  At these pop-up closets the community is invited to come "shop" for clothing, shoes, and other items that have been donated to CityTeam. The guests are given bags to fill with any items they need and there is no money exchanged. We will also be providing activities for children to do while their parents are shopping. This is a great opportunity for both adults and kids from Mercy Hill to serve together.  Kids must be 10 years or older to serve with the pop-up closet, but any age child can help at the kids activity table.  If you are interested, sign up here!  If you have any questions, please contact Becky Durstenfeld at .
  • COVID-19 Updates: As the state of California reopened further on June 15th, we are now relaxing our policies concerning COVID-19 to better align with these new guidelines.  You can find the new order we will be complying with here.  The following are important adjustments to make note of: (1) You no longer need to register for a Sunday Service (though we will still have to report positive COVID-19 infections to the county for tracking); (2) Social distancing no longer needs to be observed (you are obviously free to continue social distancing if you so desire); (3) We have relaxed our mask requirements.  We now ask you to join us in honoring these guidelines (you are obviously free to continue wearing a mask if you so desire); and (4) As our kids ministry slowly kicks back into gear, we will likely be aligning our policies with the current recommendations for schools (which you can find here).  As always, our first priority is to maintain charity in Christ towards each other whatever our opinions on the matter may be.  Please don't let the body of Christ be divided over this, but instead sacrifice yourself in love for one another as he has himself for you!   If you have any questions, please contact us at .
  • All Church Prayer - Rescheduled: Our All Church Prayer meeting is usually held on the first and third Sundays of each month.  But due to conflicts with holidays (Father's Day + Fourth of July), we've decided to shift the schedule a tad.  We will take the holidays off and instead meet to pray next on Sunday, June 27th from 6:00-7:30pm.  After that, our next meeting will get back into rhythm on the third Sunday of July (July 18th).  Thanks for understanding!  If you have any questions, please contact us at .
  • Communion Elements: We will be taking communion together immediately following the sermon. We have prepackaged elements at the Welcome Table.  If you haven't already picked them up, feel free to do so now. For those joining virtually, please plan to have those items ready as well.
  • Mercy Hill Kids Online Worship: Mercy Hill Kids is meeting today at 11:45am (both Preschool and Elementary class). Go here to read more and to find a link to sign in!  For more information, please contact Christina Lugo at   .
  • Home Groups: Many of our Home Groups have moved to a hybrid (in-person + virtual) format.  Whatever your comfort level with meeting, you're welcome to come check one out.  Find one to join here.  You are not alone!

Call to Response

1.  Sing:

All I Have Is Christ

I once was lost in darkest night
Yet thought I knew the way.
The sin that promised joy and life
Had led me to the grave.
I had no hope that You would own
A rebel to Your will.
And if You had not loved me first
I would refuse You still.

But as I ran my hell-bound race
Indifferent to the cost
You looked upon my helpless state
And led me to the cross.
And I beheld God’s love displayed
You suffered in my place
You bore the wrath reserved for me
Now all I know is grace.

Hal-le - lu - jah! All I have is Christ
Hal-le - lu - jah! Jesus is my life

Now, Lord, I would be Yours alone
And live so all might see
The strength to follow Your commands
Could never come from me.
Oh Father, use my ransomed life
In any way You choose.
And let my song forever be
My only boast is You.

Before the Throne of God Above

Before the throne of God above
I have a strong, a perfect plea:
A great High Priest, whose name is Love,
Who ever lives and pleads for me.
My name is graven on his hands,
My name is written on his heart;
I know that while in heaven he stands
No tongue can bid me thence depart
No tongue can bid me thence depart.

When Satan tempts me to despair,
And tells me of the guilt within,
Upward I look, and see him there
Who made an end of all my sin.
Because a sinless Savior died,
My sinful soul is counted free;
For God, the Just, is satisfied
To look on Him and pardon me
To look on Him and pardon me

Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Praise the One,
Risen Son of God!

Behold him there, the risen Lamb
My perfect, spotless righteousness,
The great unchangeable I am,
The King of glory and of grace!
One in himself, I cannot die
My soul is purchased by his blood
My life is hid with Christ on high,
With Christ, my Savior and my God
With Christ, my Savior and my God

Mercy Hill Kids

While difficult, this pandemic does create a wonderful chance for parents to step towards their God-given call as chief disciplers of their kids.  We know this may feel overwhelming and that is why we want to help!  Parents of Mercy Hill children should have already received an email from the Director of Mercy Hill Kids, Christina Lugo, regarding ways you can utilize the Gospel Project curriculum at home.  This information has also been included on our blog here.  Beyond this, most Sundays, we are also hosting an online worship gathering for our kids.  You can check here for more details.  We'd love to have you join us!

If you have any questions or need help in any way, don't hesitate to reach out to Christina at

Have a Wonderful Week!
